Big news from Xbox today announcing cross platform gaming with ‘Xbox Play Anywhere’. Essentially Xbox play anywhere allows you to buy a game on Xbox live and subsequently it will appear in your Windows 10 library.
Initially this will include several select titles including the likes of: Recore, Froza Horizon 3, and Halo Wars 2. They also made mention of including indie games; specifically mentioning We Happy Few. Although the list is small and apparently all Xbox exclusives that’s not to say other titles will not be supported.
By utilizing the popularity of their operating system, Microsoft is putting a stranglehold on all other competitors. They are immediately offering what their competition cannot; cross platform interaction. We’ve all dreamed of the day that we could destroy noobs on other platforms to prove that the one we chose was superior, well now our time has come.
With their announcement of the Xbox one, Project Scorpio, and play anywhere, Xbox is placing massive pressure on Sony and Nintendo to prove that they are still viable options. As for PC gaming, things have not changed. In fact things are getting even better. It’s proven time and time again that it is the leading platform for gaming and is constantly trying to be emulated or integrated.
If you are a multi-platform gamer the news of Xbox play anywhere is welcomed news as well as welcomed value. To have access to both the console and PC versions of a game for the price of one is a hell of a deal.
