The word is out, indie developer Novel Geometry is working on their first project Defenders of Naxia a Top Down Action RPG which is already turning heads. Novel Geometry hailing from Toronto, Canada are looking to change the way we play dungeon crawlers by literally letting us change characters on the fly! This ARPG will not only feature randomly generated worlds, insane battles, tons of mobs and bosses, but also permadeath! It’s literally ARPG on steroids. They are also boasting some pretty cool environments and 3D models.
Although it is just in the pre-alpha stage I had a chance to play it and really enjoyed the experience. The ability to change characters on the fly is incredible, it’s going to allow you to deal with different types of enemies efficiently, and allow you to swap out of situations when you get low on health. This wasn’t a walk in the park either, it was pretty difficult. It has this Dante’s Inferno type of vibe in the sense that you get locked in an area and you have to kill all the mobs before you can advance. That in itself is difficult because you can’t leave the area to heal or even plan your attack.
There is no release date although Novel Geometry says they are planning to start a Kickstarter as well as a submission to Steam Greenlight sometime in June. If you’re looking for a new ARPG experience consider showing some support to Novel Geometry! With a good idea and the proper resources, who knows this could be the next big thing.
