Dungelot – Shattered Lands is a dungeon crawler developed by Red Winter Software and published by tinyBuild. It is available on Steam and can be played on PC and Android.
Mooove your way through floors of dungeons for an udderly great time! You get to fight zombie cow as well as many other undeads in Dungelot. There is an iOS version of this game as well but I am playing on the PC. It’s cheaper on iOS but hey, PCMR [PC Master Race]. There are three worlds and a total of 18 dungeons to graze your way through as this is a rogue-like dungeon crawler game so expect to die a lot.
You start off with Sir Paladin here, let me assure you that even though hes holding a hammer I swear I equipped a sword! Speaking of equipment this game has a decent amount of equipment you can use and also as you progress you’ll unlock a Mansion that has multiple upgrades in there as well. This means more health, more attack power, increased chance of this and that etc. It’s worth it because the upgrade applies to all your characters
The game play could get repetitive as you lose quite often. You actually have to think to play this game! What a concept! So how the game works is that every time you click on a square it is considered a “move/ turn” and it will uncover the surrounding squares. You could uncover items, enemies, traps or just blank empty space of a deep black void… just like my heart… anyways there are pit of nothingness that Edward [Vampire] can warp enemy into.
Strategy is required in this game! Keep in mind you do not need to kill all of the enemy on a single floor, but if you do you will be rewarded with extra gold. Your goal is to basically find the golden key as soon as possible, move on and clear the dungeon. As you can see here, most of the spaces are blocked off by enemy so you would need to kill off some undeads to uncover the golden key.
Gameplay could get boring because you’re just basically going through floors of dungeons to collect gold and upgrade gear. Sometimes you get funny random events thrown at you and depending on the class you are currently using there are different options you can pick. For example, Paladins can choose to heal an injured traveler to be rewarded with a random item and a mood increase. Vampires can suck their blood instead and not let it go to waste! As gameplay becomes dull you can switch it up and play with another character. Each character has a unique skill set and passives so its quite entertaining. The voice acting could be funny at times.
This is basically a port from iOS, and I can see how it would be great for when you’re sitting on your golden throne and taking care of business. It’s like, “why not clear a dungeon at the same time.” Stay far from trying to beat the game in one sitting as it could be frustrating.
The frustration comes from RNG layout of monster spawn. Sometimes you would start the dungeon with 2 ranged skeleton archer from afar. Each time you make a move the skeleton will shoot you, but you can’t kill them unless you use a range item. This means losing health early on.
The merchant system is very useful as you can access merchant halfway through the dungeon in the hideout. Here you can buy range attack items, more health, more shield and other useful items that will help pass the dungeon. Don’t be stingy and buy what you need because its better to clear the dungeon with extra items as they are converted to gold at the end.
You can salvage items you don’t need to make room or increase charges for passive ability. Each class has their own passive. As you can see the finger of death for the Paladin class.
Random encounters make this game interesting as there could be events, Simon says and play Goosebump choose your own adventure type.
I would recommend this game if you enjoy rogue like dungeon crawler.
