Gurgamoth is an intensely fast paced flying fighting game developed by Galvanic Games and can be purchased on Steam.
Gurgamoth is a great party game – if you have four controllers ready. Currently, it only supports local co-op which I’m all for, but there doesn’t seem to be an ability to allow you to re-map keybindings at all. Without a controller plugged in, I was able to figure out that Player 1 of course uses WASD to move and Spacebar is the attack and Player 2 uses the arrow keys to move and Enter as attack. I could not figure out which key was dodge/stun before I died or what Player 3 and 4 were for the keyboard. Even without a controller plugged in, the screen only displays the controls for controller. I guess to be fair, the first load screen does say to use a controller every time.
That aside, the game itself is extremely fun. You can choose anywhere from 1, 3, 5, or 7 stock for each map and the rounds can go very quickly. The environment is your weapon and you can smash into asteroids to get power-ups as well. Each level has a unique quirk in respect to how it will kill you ranging from just spikes in the wall to a ball or death or ball of rotating lasers. It gets pretty chaotic right off the bat but also pretty easy to pick up and begin to develop a strategy for each level as you go along unless you started off with just a single stock for the sake of speed.
I would suggest either 1 or 3 stock and power-ups on normal or try 5 or 7 stock with power-ups on high. The former gives you a chance to at least develop some strategy for each round whereas the latter pretty much decimates the map in a few short seconds and is very chaotic and hilariously rage inducing.
Gurgamoth is simplistic and fun but right now doesn’t offer a whole lot of value. There’s only so many power-ups and the quite frankly you’ll be fine with 3 basic strategies depending on what the settings are. The biggest draw-back is the inability to do custom keybinds which kind of forces controllers since sharing keyboards between even just two players currently is a nightmare. Hopefully, some future patches will allow that and maybe even online co-op and a 4-pack bundle option. Currently, it’s only either local co-op or singleplayer with bots and that can get stale pretty quick too. It does look awesome though, but I still have no idea who the hell Gurgamoth is aside from being an Elder God. I assume it has something to with all those eyes…maybe a spider? *Shudder*
