Cat Goes Fishing is a casual indie game developed by Cat5Games and can be purcahsed on Steam.
Concept is simple: you are a cat and you want to fish. Start off by catching little fish and sell them for crazy profits and experience to help you level and unlock better rods and upgrades. Eventually, you’ll be able to finally buy that boat you always wanted to sail the seas and catch the biggest fish you can imagine. Starting off can definitely feel like a grind since more likely than not bigger fish will end up eating your smaller fish on the way back or eat your upgraded bait.
Truly a game that will test your wits to see what combination of items would yield the best results. Ever thought about throwing a tiny fish back into the waters to use as bait in real life? Usually doesn’t turn out too well, does it? Well same thing here except sometimes it does pay off and you do indeed reel in a bigger (and usually uglier) fish. But what is fishing usually about? That’s right, just kicking back to relax and have fun. There are two modes: one where the line doesn’t break (relaxation) and one where you line can break (realistic). I definitely went with relaxation because reasons.
The music is a very nice and calm loop that honestly could put you to sleep if you’re not careful and the cat is freaking cute too. Unfortunately, you don’t spend much time with the cat since you only see if while you’re casting your line. Still, would have loved to have some options to change the skin of the cat. Graphics just looks like a normal flash game: nothing fancy but nice distinguishing colors. Overall, it’s a pretty nice game to play if you just want to mindlessly do something to relax while watching something else. Maybe fish while playing with your actual cat.
