Super Galaxy Squadron EX is a fast paced vertical shooting game developed by Synset and published by New Blood Interactive and is available on windows through Steam.
This game reminds me of my youth where I spent hours staring at the screen unblinking as I attempted to find that small space where I would eat a face full of bullets.
Super galaxy squadron is a very classic game that doesn’t add any fluff or unnecessary addons. Just pure bullet hell and tests your ability to dodge and not blink. Inspired from old games like Raiden, the game uses the tried and true fomula of “shoot everything and don’t die”
My first impression is that the health bar is pretty lenient and sometimes I thought I ate a bullet but the health bar didn’t go down. There is a hyper bar that allows you do a special attack as you collect coins. Combo indicator is always awesome when trying to beat a high score.
The controls were decent although playing on a keyboard seemed a bit awkward. I would recommend playing the game on a controller. Super Galaxy Squadron EX is an upgrade or sequel to Super Galaxy Squadron and one noticeable change is an improvement on ship design.
Boss stages were not too difficult but I did need to take a break afterwards to rest my eyes with all the moving colours. I am still not sure how I managed to play these types of games for hours on end without getting a headache as child. Alas, age does come with problems.
This is a game I would play while sitting on the toilet doing my business but I don’t think I would spend hours on it. In any case, a fun timeless game that is sure to keep you occupied if you’re ever bored!
