Celestial Tear: Demon’s Revenge is an upcoming Sci-Fi, RPG created in a pixel art style by White Guardian Studios. It will only be available on PC, purchasable through Steam.
The story takes place in the world of Hasphal where humans have once again driven out the Jehts, Hasphal’s native inhabitants, because they believed them to be demons. Sen, the female protagonist, fights to uncover the mysteries that surround her and Hasphal’s past.
At a glance, this game immediately reminded me of Golden Sun mixed with Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku in terms of how the environment looks and overall feel, but with a much darker and more sinister tone. Along with the world full of 2D pixel animations, the game has motion comic cut scenes for easy viewing and also uses a time system akin to the Pokemon games where different creatures appear depending on day or night cycles. Lastly, what RPG game would be complete without secrets to reveal and puzzles to solve?
The battle system is like traditional RPG’s with turn based actions, making it easier on the player to plan their moves. Battles transition from the over-world in to a separate battle screen whereas small events still occur in the main over-world which consists of a variety of environments to explore such as climbing enormous mountains, diving into the depths of the ocean, or gazing at the grand palaces.
One thing that I was not a huge fan of was the voice acting. I prefer to just be able to read the text at my own pace and in my own voices so I hope there is at least a toggle option. If you’re into RPGs, especially with pixel art, try out this title and let us know what you think.
See you next game. -DecoyEC has logged off.
